Prime Minister Al-Sudani Visits Al-Rasheed Street as Third Phase of Baghdad Downtown Initiative Moves Forward

As part of the Baghdad Downtown Initiative to restore and preserve the city’s historic core, Prime Minister Mohammed Shia’ Al-Sudani conducted a field visit on April 2, 2025 to Al-Rasheed Street, following up on the third phase of the street’s rehabilitation, spanning from Al-Midan Square to Al-Rusafa Square.

Mr. Wadeea Al Handal, Chairman of Al Handal International Group and President of the Iraqi Private Banks League (IPBL), was present during the visit, reaffirming IPBL’s continued support for this national initiative. Through IPBL, he is working alongside government institutions and stakeholders to help drive investment and private sector involvement in the revitalization of Baghdad’s historic and commercial areas.

Baghdad Downtown reflects a broader vision to blend heritage preservation with modern urban planning, supporting sustainable development, investment opportunities, and the revival of commercial and cultural life in the capital.
