Wadeea Al Handal Hosts Iraqi and International Journalists for Dialogue on Banking and Development

The Iraqi Private Banks League (IPBL) hosted a special Ramadan gathering in Baghdad, bringing together a select group of Iraqi and international journalists for an open discussion on the banking sector’s role in economic development and the importance of media collaboration.

The event explored how Iraq’s banking institutions can drive national growth and support social progress through impactful initiatives. Mr. Wadeea Al Handal, Chairman of Al Handal International Group (HIG) and President of the Iraqi Private Banks League, stressed the need to align financial efforts with community needs to create lasting change.

A key highlight was the third phase of the Baghdad Pulse Initiative, which focuses on the revitalization of Al-Rasheed Street—one of Baghdad’s most historic and culturally significant areas. This transformative project has not only restored the street’s architectural heritage but also created thousands of job opportunities, serving as a model for public-private partnerships that stimulate local economies and uplift communities.

“Strengthening the relationship between the banking sector and the media is essential for fostering transparency, trust, and support for development programs,” said Mr. Al Handal. “Through open dialogue, we can bridge gaps, raise awareness, and expand the impact of initiatives like the Baghdad Pulse Initiative.”

The event reaffirmed the strong synergy between the media and Iraq’s financial institutions and their shared commitment to sustainable development.
