February 24, 2025, Baghdad - As part of ongoing efforts to restore the historical essence of Baghdad, Prime Minister Mohammed Shia’ Al-Sudani chaired a special meeting on Monday regarding the third phase of Al-Rasheed Street’s rehabilitation. The meeting was attended by Mr. Wadeea Al-Handal, Chairman of Al Handal International Group and President of the Iraqi Private Banks League, alongside the Governor of the Central Bank and other key stakeholders.
Recognizing the importance of preserving Baghdad’s cultural and economic significance, the Prime Minister has entrusted Mr. Wadeea Al-Handal and the Iraqi Private Banks League with overseeing the execution of this vital project. This initiative aligns with the government’s broader vision to revive the city’s historic streets, landmarks, and commercial hubs.
Additionally, discussions were held regarding the nature of businesses and craftsmanship within Al-Rasheed Street, with an emphasis on sustainable development strategies. In collaboration with local business owners, detailed studies will be conducted to ensure that the street’s commercial landscape evolves in a way that preserves its heritage while adapting to modern needs. The committee responsible for this effort has been assigned to provide solutions for existing stores and warehouses, ensuring continuity while accommodating the street’s redevelopment.
Prime Minister Al-Sudani has directed that this phase be completed within a record timeframe, adhering to the highest standards to restore Al-Rasheed Street as a thriving center of commerce and culture.
Through this collaboration, Mr. Wadeea Al-Handal and the Iraqi Private Banks League reaffirm their commitment to supporting national development initiatives, reinforcing the private sector’s role in Iraq’s economic and cultural restoration.
